Poker is a game of chance and because it’s mixed with betting, learning the skill of poker will ensure you have a good chance of winning some money. If you consider yourself to be a good liar poker could be the game for you, of course a little bit of good luck usually helps as well.

The basic rules of poker

Poker is a game of five cards dealt from a 52 pack of standard playing cards. The amount of cards dealt can vary from game to game but all poker hands when complete consist of five cards.

Some poker games, E.g. seven card stud leaves you with five cards to select from, the final winning hand goes to the one with the best five cards.

With stud poker games, all players are dealt one card at a time or in and they bet more money each time they get a card. They all bet in the hope they will end up with the best hand.

Players that don't want to bet on their hand any longer can "fold" (give up the hand) and surrender any bets made to that point. At the end , the poker player with the best poker hand wins all the bets.

In draw poker the players gamble, then replace the cards they don't want with new cards from the dealer and then bet again.
